Experienced keeper joins Roms
Lee Evans joins Coles Lane side
ROMULUS boss Richard Evans secured a major coup for the Evo-Stik NPL run in this week by signing experienced goalkeeper Lee Evans as a free agent.
The experienced stopper was a regular with Chasetown and Stafford Rangers before linking up with Blue Square Bet Premier club AFC Telford United in the summer.
Having had limited opportunities at the Bucks Head, Evans moved on to Leamington, but has recently become available again with manager Richard Evans swooping to sign the highly rated ‘keeper.
The Roms boss said: “We’re delighted to get hold of Lee – he will bring a lot of experience to the backline and help to make us solid – he is a quality ‘keeper.”
Evans is set to make his debut this weekend as the Roms make their longest trip of the season to Brigg Town.
Meanwhile, Romulus were held to a 0-0 dour draw at Rainworth Miners Welfare last Saturday, despite creating the better chances.
The result signalled Romulus’ first away clean sheet of the season and Richard Evans was pleased with his side’s display in the war of attrition in Nottinghamshire.
“We said it would be a battle and it was – the lads deserve a lot of credit for their attitude and application.
“We dominated the first half and were going well in the second until Ashley Jackson suffered a nosebleed.
“That handed the initiative to them while we were trying to get Ash back on the pitch, but we did well and I am pleased with our performance.”
The result saw Romulus slip to 18th, but they are extended their gap above the drop zone to nine points and Evans is confident that his side won’t be dragged into the relegation battle.
“We’re still very confident about the rest of the season – we’re not the sort of side that will go on a losing run and we’re picking up points along the way.”
Meanwhile, defender Richard Robinson has dual registered with Boldmere St Michaels to order to get match practice.
