Ex-Preston midfielder appointed new Bamber Bridge boss

Bamber Bridge have confirmed the appointment of former Preston North End midfielder Paul McKenna as their new manager.

McKenna enjoyed a successful playing career which spanned more than two decades.

A product of Preston’s youth system, he made over 400 appearances for the Lilywhites and captained the club during some of the most memorable periods in their recent history.

Signed to captain Nottingham Forest following his departure from Deepdale, McKenna went on to represent Hull City and Fleetwood Town.

A stint at Bamber Bridge also followed towards the end of his career.

McKenna made the move to Irongate in September 2014, and remained at the club until hanging up his boots in December 2015.

Since retiring, he has gone on to secure his UEFA A Licence and gained valuable experience working as part of Preston's academy setup.

The Brig, who currently sit second-bottom of the NPL Premier Division, say McKenna will bring to the club a "strong understanding of the game, combining his extensive professional playing career with his coaching qualifications and experience developing players".

He succeeds the long-serving Jamie Milligan, who stepped down from his role last week after seven years in charge.

McKenna's coaching team will consist of Neil Crowe, Mick Taylor and Stuart Barton, who worked alongside Milligan.

His first game in charge will be a trip to high-flying Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday 31 October.
