Ex-Football League striker Chris O'Grady makes NPL move

Vastly experienced forward Chris O'Grady has joined Northern Premier League side Mickleover.

O'Grady, 39, has played over 500 games for a plethora of clubs across the Football League, most notably the likes of Leicester City, Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton.

In his youth, O'Grady was capped by England at Under 17s level, making a solitary appearance for the Three Lions in 2022.

During the peak of his career, O'Grady transferred between several Football League clubs for six-figure fees, the highest of which is believed to have come in July 2014 when he joined Brighton for around £500,000.

Since 2022, he has mostly featured for non-league clubs across the Derbyshire area, including Ilkeston Town and Shirebrook Town.

O'Grady made his debut for Mickleover on Tuesday night, scoring in their 3-1 home defeat to NPL high-flyers Ashton United.

It has been a busy week on the signing front for Mickleover, with manager Gareth Holmes also bringing in two players on loan.

Young Blackpool right-back Kwaku Donkor and Kidderminster Harriers attacking midfielder Samson Hewett have linked in with the club, who find themselves seven points from safety.

Donkor started their midweek defeat to Ashton, while Hewett was introduced midway through the first half.
