Consett legend Slocombe signs for Ashington
Ashington have confirmed the signing of midfielder Matty Slocombe.
Slocombe joins Colls having spent the last 13 seasons at fellow NPL East Division side Consett.
The 30-year-old racked up over 400 appearances at Belle Vue Stadium, and appeared at Wembley with the Steelmen in 2021 in the delayed 2019/20 FA Vase final.
He was also part of the side that earned promotion to the Northern Premier League after a 2-1 inter-step play-off final against Histon during the 2021/22 campaign.
On arriving at Ashington, Slocombe said: “I’m excited and really looking forward to getting involved.
“It looks like they’ve got a really strong group at Ashington, and hopefully we’ll be up there challenging for the play-offs.”
Ashington joint head coach Andy Coyles said: “Matty is a player who we rate extremely highly. He’s tenacious and we’re thrilled to get his signature.
“Hopefully he’s going to add that extra quality to our team.”
