Club legend returns to AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds have completed the signing of Sam Brown from Bedford Town on a permanent basis.

The experienced left-back makes the switch back to Hayden Road after a two-season second spell with hometown club Bedford, during which time he helped them to the National League North.

Brown’s signing will be music to the ears of Diamonds fans, having made 334 appearances and secured three promotions with the club previously.

The bulk of his appearances came between 2012-20, although he did feature on dual-registration from Bedford towards the end of last season as he looked to return to full fitness after injury. He remains Diamonds’ all-time appearance holder.

Commenting on the arrival, manager Elliot Sandy was full of praise for the returning defender.

“We’re really pleased to bring Sam back to the club. He’s an experienced player who knows what this club is about, and what it means to represent AFC Rushden & Diamonds,” he said.

“Left-back was a position we wanted to strengthen this summer, and Sam was the outstanding option. He brings quality, experience and experience, and he’ll be a big asset on and off the pitch.

“I’m sure everyone connected with the club will be pleased to see him back.”
