Chris Palmer retires as Trafford appoint new captain

Trafford have confirmed that Chris Palmer has decided to call time on his playing career as the club provides a squad update.

Danny Caldecott said: "Chris Palmer has retired. It was always his intention to do so and we had a discussion around this before the pandemic turned our lives upside down. I am truly gutted he couldn’t fulfil his last season with us, as I feel we have been robbed of the proper goodbye and send off he deserves.

"Since I have been at the club, Chris has been exemplary in all his application on and off the pitch. He is what I believe to be an unsung hero for our football club. We all know how good and dependable he his, but sometimes I do not think he gets the recognition he deserved elsewhere. He is a brilliant football player and whenever you needed him to play out of his preferred position, he often gave you a top performance."

The club have confirmed that Keil O'Brien will captain the side for the Pitching In Northern Premier League 2021/22 season.

Trafford have also confirmed that the following players will remain at the club in 2021/22:

Matt Cooper
Jonny McIlwaine
Jack Sloan
James Neild
Adam Rooney
Ross Davidson
Matthew Morgan
Oli Ford
Max Hazeldine
Matty Barlow
Astley Mulholland

Connor Hughes, Darius Palma and Alfie Belcher have also all signed with the Shawe View club. Jake Kenny, Sam Grimshaw, Florian Yonsian and Oli Roberts have all departed.
