Blades goalkeeper makes Gainsborough loan move

Gainsborough Trinity have announced the signing of highly-rated Sheffield United goalkeeper Dylan Wharton on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old previously featured for Chesterfield and also spent time on loan at Heanor Town before stepping up to the Football League and joining the Blades on a free transfer last summer.

He will now spend the new season at Nethermoor as he furthers his development with the Northern Premier League side.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have Dylan sign for the club this season," Gainsborough goalkeeper coach Jamie Bradley said.

"Dylan is a top young 'keeper and someone, as a staff, we wanted to bring to Trinity, when we were alerted to his availability.

"Dylan brings to the club an attitude and standard that’s set at the top tier of English football.

"He has great potential and I’m glad we can play a part in his developmental journey. He’s going to be a great character in the dressing room and fit in brilliantly to the group we are trying to create this season."

Wharton has already featured twice for the Lions during pre-season as a trialist, including in a 1-1 draw against a Manchester United XI.

"I’m really happy with the decision I’ve made to join the Blues for the season, especially after the Manchester United friendly," he said.

"Walking out onto the pitch before the game, and to see the pitch. It was an absolute carpet and I am told it's like that all year round.

"I’ve settled in really well, the manager, coaching staff and the players are very good and were very welcoming."
