Atherton Collieries confirm Peplow signing

Atherton Collieries continue to build their squad ahead of the new NPL West Division season, with local winger Sam Peplow their latest summer signing.

Peplow arrives at Colls having last played for Northern Premier League side FC United of Manchester.

The 22-year-old was a product of both Manchester United and Huddersfield Town’s academies earlier in his career.

He broke into senior football through a spell at Hyde United, and went on to make nine appearances for the Tigers during the 2021/22 season.

Regular football has been hard to come by for Peplow due to injuries, but he expressed his delight at being around football again, especially with his local club.

“It’s a great feeling. To be with my local club makes it a bit more special as well,” he said.

“Everybody has been very welcoming. I already knew a few lads from my time at Manchester United when we were younger and it helps to have faces you already know.”

The winger has already represented Colls as a trialist in friendlies against Prestwich Heys and Daisy Hill.

On his arrival, Atherton Collieries boss David Chadwick said: “He has had an up-and-down year with football and fell out with it.

"If we can get him back to his best, we will have some player on our hands.”
