Ashton United make first two summer signings

Ashton United have confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Conor O’Keefe and left-back Josh Doherty, with the pair becoming the club’s first two signings of the summer.

Doherty arrives from fellow Northern Premier League side Hyde United, where he made 30 appearances in all competitions last season as the club narrowly missed out on the play-offs alongside Ashton.

He also made eight National League North appearances for Spennymoor Town during the 2023/24 campaign.

Furthermore, the defender boasts 84 appearances in League Two during stints with Crawley Town and Colchester United.

The club have also announced the arrival of a new shot-stopper, with 28-year-old O’Keefe joining from last season’s beaten play-off finalists Macclesfield.

Before then, he had played for several clubs in Sweden, Spain and Gibraltar.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’, the goalkeeper expressed his excitement at making the move to Hurst Cross, saying: “I’ll give everything to help this team and make this season a successful one.”
