Ashington part ways with managerial duo

The news broke less than 24 hours after the Colliers had picked up their first victory of the season - a 2-1 home win over Garforth Town in the NPL East Division on Tuesday night.

The pair took over from the long-serving Ian Skinner in late April and helped guide them to a 14th-placed finish.

However, the club had picked up just one point from their opening three games this season and have also been knocked out of both the FA Trophy and FA Cup.

A club statement said: "We would like to thank Andy, Richie and their coaching team for the efforts they have given to Ashington over the time they have been here, and wish them well for the future.

“The club will now consider its options, both in the immediate and longer term.”

They return to action on Tuesday night at home to Bradford Park Avenue.
