Ashington-Bishop Auckland FA Cup tie selected for BBC coverage

NPL East Division sides Ashington and Bishop Auckland will enjoy live BBC coverage this Saturday (12:30pm kick-off), with their FA Cup preliminary round tie selected for broadcast.

The pair have already met once this season, with Bishop Auckland running out 2-1 winners in the league on Tuesday night.

Both sides boast proud history in league and cup, with Ashington holding the record for being the northernmost team to have ever played in the Football League.

The Collieries have also produced some of English football's greatest sons, including World Cup winners Bobby and Jack Charlton.

Bishop Auckland, who are based less than 50 miles south of their north-east rivals, are proud 10-time winners of the FA Amateur Cup.

Ashington were knocked out at this stage of the competition last season, while their opponents reached the second qualifying round before falling to National League North side South Shields.

Both clubs will receive a £1,000 broadcast fee, and the game will be available to watch via BBC iPlayer, the red butoon and BBC Sport website on tablet, phone and desktop.

The BBC will be providing live coverage at every stage of this season's FA Cup, starting this weekend in Northumberland and ending with the final at Wembley in May.
