Adam Le Fondre makes stunning FC United move

FC United of Manchester have announcing the remarkable capture of former Premier League striker Adam Le Fondre.

Le Fondre spent time on trial at the club during pre-season and has reportedly turned down interest from the Football League and higher up the non-league pyramid to make the move to Broadhurst Park.

The 37-year-old spent last season in the Scottish Premier League with Hibernian.

FC United becomes the 12th club Le Fondre has featured for during his decorated career - and it will also be his first time outside of a full-time footballing environment.

He famously made over 400 appearances in the Football League and helped Reading to promotion to the Premier League in 2011/12.

He went on to score 12 goals during his first season with the Royals in the top flight.

Averaging 124 minutes per goal in the Premier League, he is statistically the fourth-most prolific finisher in Premier League history - behind only Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero and Kelechi Iheanacho.

The experienced forward also enjoyed success in the Australian A-League with Sydney FC, netting 56 goals in 97 appearances and helping the Sky Blues to two A-League titles in as many years.

On the move to FC United, Le Fondre said: “As I was sort of speaking to clubs, a couple of league and a couple of non-league, nothing really spoke out to me project-wise.

"This has given me the opportunity to play non-league. FC United of Manchester are a historic club now, even with a short history.

“A lot of people know about them and the noise they have made since they have been around. I'm proud to be here.”
