NPL round-up | Saturday 12 October

Three five-goal thrillers and a shock upset were just some of the headlines from another exciting weekend of action in the Northern Premier League’s top division.

The weekend’s featured game took place at Hurst Cross between two sides currently in the play-offs. Worksop Town were able to take all three points back to Nottinghamshire, as they ran out 3-2 victors over Ashton United.

A Jordan Burrow hat-trick stole the headlines as the Tigers bounced back from defeat in midweek to maintain pressure on league leaders Macclesfield.

They were able to build a five-point gap to third too, after Hebburn Town fell to a shock home defeat to bottom side Matlock Town.

Two second-half goals from Reece Kendall and Charlie Oglesby condemned Hebburn to a second straight league defeat, after suffering at the hands of FC United of Manchester last time out.

Ryan Cresswell’s first league win as Matlock boss was enough to lift his side off the foot of the table and into 20th.

Elsewhere, Mark Beesley tasted defeat for the first time as FC United of Manchester boss after Lancaster City staged a second half comeback to win 3-2 at Broadhurst Park.

FC United led 2-1 at half-time, but a winner from former Reds defender Lewis Coulton six minutes from time ensured a much-needed win for the Dolly Blues after consecutive league defeats.

Goals were flowing at Greenwich Avenue too, as Basford United also ran out 3-2 victors over Bamber Bridge.

Jamie Milligan’s side thought they had snatched a point after netting twice from 2-0 down with less than 20 minutes to go.

However, Will Squires bundled a Kane Richards cross into his own net to ensure the points remained with the hosts.

Hyde United were able to keep up with the early season play-off chasers as they won 2-1 at Mickleover.

A first win in six league games for Nicky Spooner’s side saw them move to within one point of the top five.

Ilkeston Town were unable to move into a play-off place as they failed to beat Workington, the Reds running out 2-1 winners at Borough Park.

The league’s top scorer, Tom Cursons, netted his 11th of the season to give the visitors the lead, but a brace before half-time from Steven Rigg ended up being enough to secure all three points.

Leek Town picked up their first league points at home this season by defeating Blyth Spartans 1-0 at Harrison Park.

It was their third win of the season by a 1-0 scoreline, with Josh Brehaut’s side putting some distance between themselves and the league’s bottom four.

Warrington Rylands dropped to the foot of the table after a 3-1 home defeat to Stockton Town, with all four goals coming in the second half.

And nothing could separate Morpeth Town and Whitby Town, who played out a 1-1 draw at Craik Park.
