No fear of Gingerbreads
Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell
Romulus boss Richard Evans said his side wouldn’t fear their trip to leaders Grantham Town this weekend, despite the Lincolnshire side being on a formidable run.
The Gingerbreads top the Evostik NPL One South by a point after recovering from a shaky start to the campaign, winning 16 of their last 17 league matches.
However, the Roms have themselves been difficult to beat recently, and head to the Meres on a six match unbeaten run after a 1-1 draw in the Sutton derby on Monday.
Evans said: “I know I keep saying it, but every match in this league is tough – it just goes to show how competitive it is when a side like Grantham go on a run like that and are still not running away with it.
“We’re hard to beat at the moment and we have goals in the side – there is no reason why we shouldn’t attack this game with confidence.
“We’ve come through a terrible run with injuries and still been highly competitive, and we now have competition for places throughout the squad – the lads are buzzing at the moment and all we need is that little bit of extra sharpness to turn those draws into wins.”
On the derby game, Evans added: “It was a typical Sutton derby really, very little given away but still good to watch.
“Sutton have a good side and while we always look to take three points, it wasn’t a bad result all things considered.
“It’s pleasing that we can match teams like Sutton and deserve our share of the spoils – we might have nicked it in the end, but a point each was a fair reflection of the game.”
The Roms have no midweek game and host Brigg Town at Coles Lane next weekend (Saturday 14th January, KO 3pm).
