Wythenshawe appoint former Stalybridge boss Kinsey

Wythenshawe have unveiled former Stalybridge Celtic boss James Kinsey as their new manager.

Kinsey makes a swift return to management with the Ammies, less than three months since parting company with Stalybridge after an indifferent start to the NPL West Division season.

He lasted little under 18 months in the role at Bower Fold, joining the club following a successful five-year stint at Wythenshawe Town.

During that time, he led his former club to promotion from the Cheshire Premier Division then a pair of third-placed finishes in the NWCFL, and famously took them to the FA Vase quarter-finals during the 2021/22 season.

Kinsey replaces Shane Goldrick, who left the club over the festive period having led them to back-to-back promotions from Step 6 to Step 4 of the non-league pyramid.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the club," Kinsey said.

"Shane has done an unbelievable job in recent years. It’s down to his hard work that the club has managed to reach its highest ever level.

"Our job now is to try and ensure we remain at this level. We’ve got a very difficult task ahead of us, but it’s a challenge that we are relishing.

"The current group was riding high not so long ago. We will look to add one or two to boost the great group of players that we already have here, and will give it our all to get out of the relegation zone.

Kinsey takes over a Wythenshawe side currently in the relegation zone, three points from safety.

He will be joined at the club by long-time assistant Dan Whiteside, the pair having worked together since 2017.

The former Stalybridge boss will take charge for the first time on Saturday afternoon when the Ammies host NPL West Division high-flyers Vauxhall Motors.

On the appointment, Wythenshawe senior chair Martin Howe said: “In James, we saw continuity, a leader, someone with high standards, who will fit in perfectly here at the Ammies.

“He has experience of managing in the Northern Premier League, he knows our club, many of our players, and he has already identified others that he believes can add that little bit of quality we have been lacking in key areas.”
