Marine reveals plans for new stadium and £5m fundraising drive
Marine have revealed ambitious plans to relocate to a new stadium following their promotion to the National League North.
The club have played at their current home at the Marine Travel Arena since 1903 but say they are keen to develop a new facility to cater for growing interest in the club.
Earlier this month, the Mariners secured promotion for the first time in their history, defeating Macclesfield 2-1 in the play-off final.
Plans are now afoot to develop a new 4,000 capacity venue, with the opportunity to increase that figure to 5,000 should their progression up the football pyramid continue.
Marine say their existing home at the Marine Travel Arena, formerly known as Rossett Park, would remain as a community hub for the club as part of plans.
The installation of a new 3G pitch at the venue was completed in July 2022, ahead of their first season back in the Northern Premier League following promotion from the NPL West Division in 2021/22.
Three potential sites in the Crosby area have been identified for the new stadium - down from an initial shortlist of 16.
On the club's plans, Marine CEO James Leary said: "In 2019 we launched a five-year plan to move Marine Football Club forward in all areas on and off the field.
"A crucial element of the plan was to future proof the potential upward movement of the club through the pyramid by removing the challenges posed at the current site.
"Meanwhile, our progress on-the-field has evidently been staggering. We are now in a position where our attendances have increased to an all-time high.
"Our promotion means that not only are we expecting another step-change increase in attendances, but our need to remove the constraints that limit us as a football club has accelerated dramatically.
"For everything we have achieved in the last five years, it is nothing compared to the size of the task we have ahead of us with the stadium aims.
"The funding is key to making it happen, along with getting agreement from the key people involved with us securing the land in the first place."
