Manager Jimmy Bell leaves Clitheroe as replacement found
Clitheroe have confirmed that Sean McConville will take over from Jimmy Bell as their new head coach.
Bell departs the club after seven months in charge of the Blues.
Under his tenure, Clitheroe won six of their 19 league fixtures, drawing five and losing eight, which leaves them in 17th place in the NPL West Division.
In a statement, the former Accrington Stanley assistant manager cited internal factors as the primary decision for his exit, saying: "It is with regret that on Tuesday morning, I decided to formally inform the board at CFC that I was to relinquish my position as manager.
"My position had become untenable over the last few weeks, which has coincided with a poor run of results.
"Certain factors have contributed to my decision; I have been 100% fully committed and have been frustrated by factors on and off the pitch.
"It has and will continue to be a transitional season as the club moves forward with a new breed of exciting players.
"I know the club with its wonderful support by the fans will do well. You have all been magnificent and I urge you to do everything you can to stay with this group.
"The players have given me everything and I can't thank them enough. My staff, Sean, Pete and Chappy, have been class.
"I wish nothing but the best for the CFC board members, and I know how hard they all work. Hopefully, we can all earn from this experience.
"Lastly, I'd like to thank a certain Mr Carl Garner who has been an absolute godsend to me. I have enjoyed every battle with opposition managers and teams in this wonderful league.
I look forward to standing with the barside boys and girls to cheer this team on."
Taking over from the departing Bell is his assistant manager Sean McConville.
The 35-year-old enjoyed 12 seasons at Accrington Stanley where he became the club record appearance maker, featuring 445 times.
Speaking on the appointment of McConville as their new manager, Clitheroe said: "With Jimmy Bell's departure, the club's board was keen to provide stability and continuity for the young team while bringing fresh ideas, energy, and new ways of working to the squad.
"As the club's current coach, Sean fitted the bill perfectly, and was delighted to accept the offer.
“He is hungry to forge a new career in football management. He sees Clitheroe as a perfect opportunity to get a foothold on the managerial ladder whilst simultaneously growing CFC and helping deliver its own growth ambitions.”
McConville's first game in charge of the Blues will be at home against Newcastle Town this Saturday in the Northern Premier League.
