Gainsborough defender departs to Worksop

Left-back Lewis Butroid has joined Northern Premier League East Division side Worksop Town.

The 23-year-old made 15 appearances for his hometown club Gainsborough Trinity, while also spending time out on loan at Spennymoor Town and Hereford before his release from Scunthorpe.

Gainsborough Trinity have allowed him to leave with the club sat in 16th.

The side need forwards if they wish to comfortably stay up, as they are the second lowest goal scorers in the league so far this season.

The former Scunthorpe player joins Worksop, who are sat in sixth.

Worksop Town manager Craig Parry shared his thoughts on the new signing: “I am pleased to get him over the line.

“We have been aware of Lewis through Sam Graham – who leads our scouting – for quite a while now and I have watched him myself.

“With the experience that he has, having played in the Football League, we feel that he will slip straight into the left-back spot.

“He is naturally left-sided and likes to get forward and I think he fits our style of play, which is firstly why I have brought him in. But another reason is his experience from playing many games at a higher level and we hope he will come here with that understanding and help those around him and push us on.

“Lewis adds natural balance, and we certainly haven’t just got him in because Connor [Smythe] has left us; we approached him quite a while ago regarding making us stronger and adding competition for places no matter the position and we feel he will give us better options to how we want to play.”
