Double arrival at Atherton Collieries
Goalkeeper Jack Buckley and young striker Rio Pemberton have joined Atherton Collieries.
Buckley has joined Colls from League Two side Accrington Stanley, having impressed on trial during recent friendlies against Padiham, Bolton Wanderers and 1874 Northwich.
The former Chorley and Laburnum Rovers youth player will provide competition for Nico Defreitas-Hansen in-between the sticks.
“I’m excited to join the Colls because being from Atherton it’s great to be playing for a local club with a lot of tradition," Buckley said.
"My aim for the season is lots of clean sheets. I’m a goalkeeper who is always communicating with my backline and commanding my box, and hope to show off my wide range of distribution.
“I’m looking forward to proving myself to the manager and fighting for the number one spot.”
Colls' second new arrival sees former Preston North End forward Pemberton provide versatility to their forward line.
He was a prolific scorer at youth level for North End's youth teams and also previously represented fellow Championship club Blackburn Rovers.
Like Buckley, Pemberton has shone during recent pre-season fixtures, scoring twice as a trialist against Prestwich Heys.
“I’m filled with nothing but excitement for what the future holds for me at the Colls," he said following the move.
"It will provide a good test, and enable me to grow and develop as a player in the great environment that the gaffer has created.
"I’ve been in with the squad for a few weeks now, and there is a healthy winning mentality instilled within the group. The 2023/24 season is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to see how much we can achieve as a team."
Discussing his new arrivals, manager David Chadwick said: “Jack is a big, strong lad with a lot of potential, and we’re happy to bring him in to add competition to the squad.
“Rio really excites me! I first saw him at the exit trials in May. He has pace, power and a great attitude.
"If he can fulfil his potential, then he will be some player.”
