Blyth Spartans' new manager unveiled

Michael Connor has been appointed the new manager of Blyth Spartans.

Connor boasts an impressive track record and joins Spartans having earned six promotions with neighbours Blyth Town during his 16 years at the club.

His side won the Northern League Division 2 title last season, and he leaves the club in second place after an impressive start to their debut season in Division 1.

On the appointment, Connor said: “After 16 years at Blyth Town, I am extremely proud to have the opportunity, as a local lad, to manage Blyth Spartans.

"I grew up as a Spartans fan and have so many memories of standing on the terraces for the famous cup runs. Spartans are the main reason I fell in love with football.

"I know this is going to be a challenge, but I am excited about the whole community relaunch of the club.

"There’s a real buzz about the place, and together we can make this club great again.”

Spartans have moved quickly to appoint a successor to David Stockdale, who was sacked after a takeover of the club was confirmed on Friday.

A newly-formed consortium, led by local businessman Martin Trinder, have taken over the running of the club from Irfan Liaquat.

Spartans currently find themselves at the foot of the Northern Premier League table, five points from safety, after a start which yielded just two wins from 13 games.

Connor's first match in charge will come away at Warrington Rylands on November 9.
